Vamos is а semi-mountainous village located on the hills between the seaside resorts of Kalyves and Georgioupoli. It is one of the larger and most beautiful villages of Apokoronas area, developing eco-tourism all year round. It is also listed as a traditional settlement by the government and the houses are in the typical Cretan architecture. Excluding the main street which crosses the village, the others are quite narrow, making it impossible for two cars to pass at the same time.

In Vamos you can find taverns, bakery, mini markets, pharmacy and bank with ATM. The beaches of Kalyves and Almyrida are 15 min drive, at about 8 km. Near Vamos you can see the monastery of Agios Georgios with the ruins of its old olive oil factory, the small church of Theotokos dated 13 century, or some of the other traditional villages of the region like Gavalochori and Douliana.

Apokoronas is a region which extends to the northeastern part of the prefecture of Chania, by the foothills of the White Mountains to the north coast of Crete.

It is characterized by the green hills and the fertile tracts of land, due to the abundance of water coming from the mountains, creating the only natural lake of Crete, as well as rivers which run through the region, before finding their way out to the sea.
